The course consists of:

Guided discussion learning objectives:
- Discuss the workplace conditions that has led to heat illness related deaths in California.
- Explain why employers must have a Heat Illness Prevention Plan.
- Explain why employees and supervisors must be trained in Heat Illness Prevention procedures prior to exposure.
- Explain environmental risk factors.
- Explain personal risk factors.
- Explain Heat Illness, first aid treatments, and the 5 medical conditions associated with it:
- Heat rash
- Heat syncope
- Heat cramps
- Heat exhaustion
- Heat stroke
- Explain acclimatization.
- Explain what conditions create shade.
- Explain the procedures for when shade must be provided.
- Explain the procedures for making shade available.
- Explain the procedures for providing water to employees.
- Explain employer high heat procedures.
- Explain employer Emergency Response procedures.
- Discuss supervisor responsibilities and duties for implementing Heat Illness Prevention procedures.
- Explain the procedures for supervisors getting weather forecasts.
- Explain how to use a Wet Bulb Temperature Chart to assess heat illness risk.
End-of-Course Exam: (optional)
- The end-of-course exam measures the students’ knowledge of the course learning objectives.
- The exam consists of 20 true/false questions.
Students who pass the exam with a score of 80% or higher will receive a certificate of completion.
