New School Year, New TargetSolutions Courses
To assist school districts, the EIA has collaborated with TargetSolutions to develop thirty-two new courses to coincide with the upcoming school year. The new courses cover many topics including transportation, science lab safety, sexual misconduct, heat illness, and more!

TargetSolutions has also revamped twenty-eight of their most utilized courses. These revised courses offer a video-driven format with new and improved visuals, exercises, and quizzes.

Addressing Playground Hazards
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates more than 200,000 injuries occur annually on public playgrounds across the country. Use our new edition of Risk Simplified to mitigate the top playground hazards with the potential to cause debilitating head and neck injuries (or worse).
Senate Bill 1053 - Sexual Abuse Claim Presentation Requirements
Under the California Government Claims Act, childhood sexual abuse claims are expressly excluded from the six month or one-year claim presentation requirements. The Act, however, allows local agencies to establish local claim procedures for timely presentation of claims for damages related to child sexual abuse prior to filing a lawsuit. Big Oak Flat-Groveland Unified School District v. Superior Court upheld the validity of this process.
 
On July 20th, Governor Brown signed SB-1053 which overturned the Big Oak Flat case by prohibiting local agencies from adopting local claim procedures for childhood sexual abuse claims. The bill states that it is declaratory of existing law; therefore, courts can apply it retroactively.
