On April 19, 2024, the U.S. Department of Education released its final rule to fully effectuate Title IX's promise that no person experiences sex discrimination in federally funded education. The new rules, which take effect on August 1, 2024, extend the law’s reach to prohibit discrimination and harassment based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
In addition, the Department has released a fact sheet, a summary of the major provisions of the final regulations, and a resource for drafting Title IX nondiscrimination policies, notices of nondiscrimination, and grievance procedures. For questions regarding these resources, contact Scarlett Sadler.
