New WC Coding Requirements for COVID-19 Related Claims
The Workers Compensation Insurance Organization (WCIO) has approved the addition of two new codes to be added in response to the COVID-19 claims reported. The Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) is in the process of modifying the EDI reporting and collection systems to process the claims reporting these new codes.
For work comp claims reported, please use the following codes for each COVID-19 related claim filed:
- Cause of Injury: Code 83: Pandemic (new code)
- Nature of Injury: Code 83: COVID-19 (new code)
- Body Part of injury: Code 60: Lungs (existing code)
Please update your claim systems and EDI reporting accordingly. As a reminder, please report all COVID-19 related claims filed by an employee to the EIA. For questions please contact Jen Hamlin or Karin Wedworth.
