The County of Riverside's Human Resources Department has an opportunity for a Loss Control Specialist in Riverside. The position will be responsible for assisting in the review of liability exposures to the County as reported in lawsuits, tort claims or incident reports relating to property, bodily injury, and employment claims. The position supports review of these materials for the purpose of determining root causes of exposures and making recommendations to departments based on findings as revealed by the claims data. This position will also support the implementation of the workers' compensations alternative dispute prevention and resolution program. The department desires candidates with knowledge of risk management principles and loss control practices, as well as those who are proficient in the full Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint. The most competitive candidates will have experience working in a union environment and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience: Three years of performing para-professional work related to employee investigations or risk management. (Completion of college level courses from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or a closely related field to the assignment may substitute for one year of the required experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of the required full-time experience) Knowledge of: Basic characteristics of County government operational exposures; Cal/OSHA regulations and standards; risk management principles, including trend and/or root cause analysis, and risk mitigation; loss financing mechanisms; tort and contract law; civil procedures and administrative regulations; employee relations investigations. Ability to: Establish priorities; identify and analyze issues accurately and select effective action; plan, organize, and conduct research for analysis, and make recommendations based on findings prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations; establish and maintain cooperative effective interpersonal relationships; negotiate and resolve conflicts; prepare and present oral reports in a persuasive manner; manage time effectively; apply risk management principles; adapt to new situations, demands and objectives; interface effectively with staff, Board of Supervisors, management, and the public.
