Under close supervision, initially in a training capacity, to analyze, review, investigate, and adjust claims filed by employees for Workers' Compensation benefits; and to do other related work as required. Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster I is the first working level in the workers' compensation claims adjusting job series. The class is distinguished from the higher class of Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster II in that incumbents of the latter journey level job class handle complex claims which involve litigation, permanent disability, or cases where employees are disabled for more than six weeks. Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster I and II are flexibly staffed, where a Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster I can move to the II level without examination after meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher journey level class and successful performance at the Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster I level.
License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.
Certification: The incumbent must be a current "certified claims adjuster" in the State of California pursuant to Title 10 of CCR 2592, or possess the self-insurance certificate issued by the State of California.
Education: Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time work experience with an insurance carrier, third party claims administrator, or self-insured claims administrator whose primary responsibility was to support the adjustment of workers' compensation claims.
